LIMELIGHT Awards, achievements
BOARDMAN -- Evan Mecak, a Boardman native, was one of 20 Hearst Newspaper employees recognized with a 2003 Eagle Award for making exceptional contributions to the success and prosperity of its newspapers. Mecak, direct sales and marketing manager for the San Francisco Chronicle in San Francisco, Calif., was credited with his part in turning around a 10-year circulation slide at The Chronicle. A program he and his team devised resulted in more than 50,000 new weekend subscriptions for the newspaper.
A 1989 Boardman High School graduate and former Vindicator carrier, Mecak earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio University and completed a journalism internship at The Vindicator in 1993.
SHARON -- Cover letters submitted by JaneCo's Sensible Solutions, a Sharon-based provider of r & eacute;sum & eacute;s and business correspondence, will be included in the 5th edition of "Cover Letters that Knock 'Em Dead," published by Adams Media Corp. Previous editions of the book by Martin Yate have been on the New York Times best-seller list in its category for more than 10 years and have sold more than 3 million copies.
MERCER, Pa. --Three advocates for AWARE, Mercer County's Center Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, have earned certification for victim assistance from the Coalition of Pennsylvania Crime Victim Organizations. Recipients are: Candace Blake of Greenville, assistant director of direct services; Mary Miller of Greenville, domestic violence coordinator; and Margie Lytle of Mercer, a legal advocate. The certification recognizes workers who demonstrate commitment to education, ethical conduct and a minimum of three years' experience working with victims.
WARREN -- Paige & amp; Byrnes Insurance, with offices in Warren and Hubbard, was awarded the 2003-2004 Pacesetter designation by The Motorist Insurance Group, based in Columbus. The insurer awards the designation to its top tier of independent agents.
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- David A. Gollner of Gollner & amp; Associates estate and retirement planning in Hermitage, attended the Million Dollar Round Table annual meeting in Las Vegas recently as a member. Membership in the MDRT is recognized internationally as a standard of sales excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.
