FRIDAY
* Call for tickets after 10 a.m. to any of these concerts: singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter with Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Benedum Center, Pittsburgh (412-456-6666); odd but popular rock duo The White Stripes with Whirlwind Heat, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at Cleveland Agora (Ticketmaster); or alt-metal band Godsmack, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Tower City Amphitheatre, Cleveland (Ticketmaster).
* A weekend of music begins at 5 p.m. at the Budweiser Rib Cook Off, in the parking lot of Southern Park Mall near Chili's Restaurant. The Earthquakers and Edison's Medicine will cover classic rock songs, and local band The Infidels will perform its originals. The evening will end with a bikini contest at 10:30 p.m. Saturday's entertainment will begin at 6:45 p.m. with Mike Tolcher, followed by Ripley Records artist Marc Broussard at 8 p.m. and Pittsburgh indie rock band The Clarks at 9:30 p.m. Wear your dancing shoes on Sunday and boogie to the sounds of The Shagadelics at 5 p.m., Take 5 at 6:30 and Disco Inferno at 7:45 p.m. Admission is free before 5 p.m. each day. After $5 p.m., prices are $5 on Friday and Sunday, $5 from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and $10 after 7 p.m. Saturday. Seniors pay half price, and children under age 12 are admitted for free.
SATURDAY
* It's ticket-buying day for these upcoming events: Tony Hawk's "Boom Boom Huck Jam," a combination of skateboarding, BMX and motorcycle riding and instrumental rock music by The Anarchy Orchestra, at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Gund Arena, Cleveland; "Journey to Crystal Cave," a "Dragon Tales Live" show for kids and families from Sept. 25 to 28 at Cleveland State University Convocation Center; rock band Reverend Horton Heat with Southern Culture on the Skids and Throw Rag, 8 p.m. Oct. 1 at Rock Jungle in Pittsburgh; and more music by Bowling for Soup with Lucky Boys Confusion, 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Metropol in Pittsburgh. Call Ticketmaster in the morning about "Boom Boom Huck Jam" or "Journey to Crystal Cave," and after noon to inquire about the two concerts.
* Local rock band Via Sahara will perform at a CD release party at Plaza Cafe in downtown Youngstown. Special guests will be Cyde and Futuregrass. Admission is $5 for ages 18 and older. "With the Weight of the World" is Via Sahara's second full-length CD of original music.
SUNDAY
* Dominic Tocco will celebrate 40 years in local show business when he and his band, The Brotherhood, perform at 9:30 p.m. on the final night of the Brier Hill Italian Festival at Calvin and Victoria streets on Youngstown's North Side. Tocco, of Poland, and musicians Joe Morando, Paul Geminiani and Peter Pylypiw play everything from favorite love songs to current dance tunes. The all-weekend festival also is a good place to sample Italian foods and catch up with friends from the old neighborhood.
NEXT WEEK
* Mark Wednesday on the calendar if you want tickets to "Club Rock Style" from 8 p.m. to midnight Sept. 20 at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland. The fashion show with a nightclub atmosphere will feature DJs at their turntables and models on the runway. Tickets are $18. Buy them from Ticketmaster.
* Several groups will be singing the praises of gospel music in a concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 in Edward W. Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St., downtown Youngstown. Featured will be The Canton Spirituals; Lil' Willie & amp; the Keynotes; Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs; and, from Cleveland, Tony Chandler. Tickets are $33. * Its Broadway run has ended, but the beloved musical "Les Miserables" is still on tour. Share in the struggles of French fugitive Jean Valjean when "Les Mis" is performed from Oct. 7 to 12 at Allen Theatre on Playhouse Square in Cleveland. Tickets are priced from $21 to $60. * The famous Kirov Ballet from St. Petersburg, Russia, will give four performances, at 8 p.m. Nov. 6-8 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 9, in one of the theaters at Playhouse Square Center, Cleveland. It'll be the ballet's first U.S. tour in 11 years. For tickets, which are from $25 to $100, call Tickets.com.
