YOUNGSTOWN -- Dearborn Avenue from Burlington to Robinwood roads was closed today until further notice for construction of the state Route 711 Connector.
Dearborn Avenue at Sarah Street, the U.S. Route 422 passing lane from Division Street to Girard, and the southbound driving lanes of Belmont Avenue at Gypsy Lane already are closed.
The $24.9 million project is scheduled for completion in fall 2005.
Coitsville Garden work
COITSVILLE -- Area residents and members of the Coitsville Historical Society are asking for help in restoring the Coitsville Garden, which was damaged by heavy rains.
Construction of the garden was spearheaded by Dorothy Morse, Coitsville Historical Society president, in memory of the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, and all others who have died in defense of the United States or in heroic efforts to help others.
Morse, a double amputee in ill health, is unable to do the gardening.
Volunteers will meet at the garden at 6 p.m. Monday. The garden is on McCartney Road near Begala Street and across from VFW Post 7600.
Inscribed paving bricks that will be installed at the garden are available for $50, $75 and $150. Money raised will fund garden upkeep.

Man hurt on the job
HUBBARD -- A 49-year-old New Springfield man was injured Wednesday in an industrial accident at PSK Tool & amp; Die Co., 2960 Gale Road, Hubbard Township.
William Burns is being treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center and was in critical condition early today.
Township police Detective Mike Begeot said it's unclear what happened, but Burns suffered severe facial injuries while working with machinery.
Flower funds sought
LIBERTY -- Liberty in Bloom, a community-based group to beautify the township, is asking for funds to continue its work.
A can for donations has been placed in the township administration building near the post office.
This summer, six flower beds were planted, including those on Logan Way and Arbor Circle, at the administration building, and at Logangate Road fire station.
Guitarist's son born
HARTFORD -- The late Ty Longley of Hartford, a guitarist with the rock band Great White who was killed in a nightclub fire in Rhode Island in February, has a son.
His girlfriend, Heidi Peralta of Plainville, Ill., gave birth to Acey Ty Longley on Tuesday, said Pat Longley, Ty's father.
The baby weighed in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces.
Longley, 31, died when pyrotechnic devices sparked a fire just after Great White began playing.
Nearly 100 people died in the fire.
Turtle Soup Stag
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- The Petersburg Firemen's Association will host a Turtle Soup Stag from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Richey's Woods, off Hoffmeister Road.
Admission is $10 at the door.
Proceeds will go to the PFA.
56th annual horse show
BROOKFIELD -- The Brookfield Saddle Club will host its 56th annual horse show Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. into the evening.
A variety of horse breeds and riding disciplines will be featured.
Admission is free. Food will be provided by a class from Brookfield Methodist Church.
Show grounds are off state Route 82 on Bedford Road S.E.
Jackson Park damage
CAMPBELL -- Police are seeking information regarding damage to the roof of a pavilion in Jackson Park.
A city employee told police that someone tore shingles off the pavilion and damaged the roof.
The employee also said that such vandalism has been an ongoing problem.
She noticed the most recent damage Tuesday morning.
