FLOODING
FLOODING
Cleanup tips
After water has been pumped from the basement, shovel out mud and debris while still moist. Hose down walls to remove as much silt as possible before it dries. Floors and walls may need sanitized, particularly if sewage entered the basement. Scrub with disinfecting solution made with one cup of chlorine bleach per gallon of water.Use rubber gloves for cleanup and wash hands afterward.
Prepare two cleaning solutions: a household detergent solution for cleaning and diluted bleach for disinfecting.
Clean floors and walls with detergent solution and then disinfect with bleach solution.Remove and dry carpets quickly and thoroughly. Clean with a carpet cleaner and discard wet underlay. In some instances of minor flooding, it may be sufficient to steam clean the carpet in place.Clean upholstered furniture with appropriate detergent. A diluted bleach solution may be used to disinfect the furniture once cleaned.
Wash clothing and bedding in a washing machine.Discard all food contaminated by floodwater with the exception of food stored in metal cans. Clean and disinfect the outside of the can before storing.
