Bridge replacement to begin next month

EAST PALESTINE -- Replacement of the concrete bridge on state Route 46 near the city park will begin Sept. 2, City Manager Gary Clark said.
Clark attended a meeting Tuesday at the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 office in New Philadelphia.
Clark said the work will continue for about three weeks with traffic maintained. Then a temporary bridge will be installed. The bridge will be replaced with a box culvert so there won't be any sides on the bridge, Clark said.
BOG Construction of Mineral Ridge has until June 30 to complete the work. Clark did not have information available on the cost of the project.
The bridge is over Leslie Run and is in a busy traffic area near the city park. Area motorists have complained the aging bridge's high concrete sides impede visibility.
