SCRAPPERS NOTEBOOK From Cafaro Field
Impressions: Manager Ted Kubiak is impressed with the play of outfielder Jonathan Van Every, who is at Mahoning Valley for the third straight season. Van Every had played with the Lake County Captains earlier this season. Sunday, he had two runs and two hits in his five at-bats, but may have been most impressive in right field in the seventh inning of the first game. Van Every sprinted after a fly ball along the first-base railing, caught it and nearly fell completely into the seats. "He's got some tools," Kubiak said. "He seems to get to balls easily because he covers a lot of ground."
Win two tickets: Greg Gania, who broadcasts the games for WNIO-AM (1390), wants fans to submit questions for the Ted Kubiak pregame show. If fans' questions are selected and read on the air, they will win two free tickets to an upcoming Scrappers game. To submit questions, e-mail Gania at ggania@mvscrappers.com.
Schedule: The Scrappers will finish their homestand tonight (7 p.m.) against Staten Island before embarking on a nine-game road trip. Mahoning Valley's T.J. Burton (3-1, 7.57 ERA), who has won three straight games, will oppose the Yankees' Chase Wright (2-3, 3.76). The promotion is Austintown Community Day, and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Cleveland Indians prospect card featuring former Scrapper Joe Inglett.
