BOARDMAN -- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, the North Carolina-based pastry chain, is making plans to open its first Youngstown-area store at 796 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, in mid-October. Krispy Kreme operates more than 305 stores in 41 states, Australia and Canada.

Employer costs riseslightly in Midwest
YOUNGSTOWN -- Employers in the Midwest region, which includes Ohio, saw their cost for employee compensation increase 0.8 percent in the three-month period ending June 30, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Compensation costs in the region rose 4.8 percent in the 12 months ending June 30, compared with 3.5 percent in the same period a year ago.
For the year, cost increases in the Midwest were the highest among the four regions. Costs grew 4.1 percent in the West, 3.3 percent in the Northeast and 2.5 percent in the South.
The bureau's Employment Cost Index includes wages, salaries and employer costs for worker benefits. The Midwest region includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
