Liberty 65, Mystics 56
WASHINGTON -- Crystal Robinson scored 18 points to lead New York, snapping a nine-game road losing skid and eliminating Washington from playoff contention. New York (12-14) hadn't won away from home since June 6 in Minnesota. The Liberty opened a 10-point lead before going just 1-for-10 from the field during the last 7 1/2 minutes of the first half, allowing the Mystics to take a 33-31 lead at the break. Chamique Holdsclaw, who led Washington with 13 points despite shooting 4-of-17 from the floor, helped the Mystics build a six-point lead while New York missed its first five shots of the second half. Robinson hit a 3-pointer with 11:52 to play to give New York its first lead of the half and a driving layup three minutes later to put New York ahead for good at 51-49.
Sting 69, Sun 68
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dawn Staley's bank shot at the buzzer gave Charlotte a comeback victory. Andrea Stinson's runner bounced hard off the backboard and into the hands of Staley, who lofted a 5-footer high off the glass as time expired. The officials consulted a video replay before determining Stinson got her shot off before the buzzer sounded. Stinson scored 19 points, Shalonda Enis added 14, and Staley had 11 as the Sting (16-12) rallied from a 15-point deficit to maintain sole possession of second place in the Eastern Conference. Nykesha Sales tied a career-high with 29 points, and Katie Douglas added 10 for the Sun (14-14), losers of two straight. Douglas made a 3-pointer with 26.4 seconds remaining to put Connecticut ahead. Sales went 7-of-12 from the field and made 13-of-16 free throws.
