Rockers beat Indiana Fever 66-62 despite late flurry



INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Chasity Melvin scored 19 points and the Cleveland Rockers withstood a flurry of Indiana Fever 3-point baskets late in the game to win 66-62 Saturday night.
Cleveland, which plays host to the Fever on Sunday, tied Indiana for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Both teams are 13-14.
Betty Lennox scored five points as the Rockers went on a 13-2 run over a five-minute stretch of the second half to build a 60-43 lead with 6:58 remaining.
Bridget Pettis, Niele Ivey and Tamika Catchings hit consecutive 3-pointers as Indiana came back with a 16-2 run over the next 6:11 to close the gap to 62-59 with 31.5 seconds to play. Penny Taylor and LaToya Thomas hit four straight free throws for Cleveland before Pettis hit another 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left.
Catchings led Indiana with 21 points. Taylor scored 14 and Thomas 12 for Cleveland. Natalie Williams had 17 for the Fever, who have lost four straight.
The first half was close throughout, with 10 lead changes and six ties. Melvin and Taylor scored four points each to fuel a 10-2 run late in the half to give the Rockers a 35-29 lead. They led 37-32 at halftime and never trailed in the second half.
