Clark will umpireLittle League game
INDIANAPOLIS -- Umpire Ted Clark of Canfield will work third base in today's Little League Baseball Central regional tournament game. ESPN coverage begins at 6 p.m.
Canfield team loses
HAMILTON -- The Canfield Little League 9-10 team was handed a 5-1 setback by Elyria East Friday in the state championship game.
Canfield, which has finished runnerup in two of the last three years, posted a 11-3 record in district and state competition.
Morrow is medalist
ALLIANCE -- Tim Morrow, who will be a junior at Boardman High School this fall, took medalist honors with 77 in the Ray Memorial National Junior Open Saturday at Sleepy Hollow golf course.
Jon Spelman of Wooster placed second with 80 and Adam Belvin of Ravenna was third with 81.
The tourney is part of the JGA Junior Tour.
Sachire in final
GODFREY, Il. -- Ryan Sachire of Canfield and Raven Klaasen go against Troy Hahn-Hamid Mirzadeh for the doubles title today in the USTA Men's Future Tennis Tournament at Lewis and Clark College.
Sachire-Klaasen earned that berth Saturday as they topped Scott Lipsky-David Martin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a semifinal match.
Sachire, the second seed in single, lost to seventh seed Michihisa Onoda of Japan, 7-6(6), 6-2.
New Hiram coach
HIRAM -- Mike Lazusky, an assistant football coach at Tri-State (Ind.) University, has been named men's and women's track and field coach at Hiram College. In addition, he will serve as an assistant on Mike Meyer's football staff.
He replaces Mark FitzPatrick, who left Hiram after three years to become Washington and Jefferson College track and field coach.
Cavs announcepreseason schedule
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers will play and eight-game preseason schedule in preparation for the 2003-04 NBA season.
The Cavs go against Detroit at the Palace of Auburn Hills Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and travel to meet the Atlanta Hawks at the Asheville Center in Asheville, N.C., Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
Following a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks at Gund Arena Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., the Cavs will head west for three contests.
Cleveland will face the Los Angeles Lakers in a TNT nationally broadcast game Oct. 16 at 10:30 p.m., then meet the Los Angeles Clippers Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Both contests will be played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Cal.
The Cavs and Lakers will again meet Oct. 19 in Bakersfield's Centennial Gardens Areba at 9:30 p.m.
Cleveland will host the Washington Wizards Oct. 22 and finish pre-season with a trip to St. John's Newfoundland to battle the Toronto Raptor at Mile One Stadium at 6 p.m.
Ferris wins award
DETROIT, Mich. -- David Ferris, a senior at Austintown Fitch High, was presented with the Joel Ferrel gymnastics award at the AAU Junior Olympics at Ford Field.
The award was given to athletes based on their sportsmanship and performance.
Farris placed first on still rings, was third on vault and parallel bars, fifth on horizontal bars, seventh on floor exercise, pommel horse and all-around 41 points.
Participating in the 8-11-year-old division was Donald Yeager, a fifth-grade student at Austintown Middle School. He finished first on pommel horse, rings, parallel bars and horizontal bars and all-around (43.675) and was third on vault.
Zak Leger, a seventh grade student at AMS, competed in the 12-13 division. He was first in pommel horse, rings, vault and all-around with 44.9 points, and was second in horizontal bars.
In the girls 16-year-old division, Doreen Martof, a junior at Howland, was 13th on vault, 17th BB, 20th uneven parallel bars, FE and all-around.
Katie Hawkins, 13, an eighth-grade student at Boardman Middle School, was sixth UPB, eighth vault, balanced beam and all-around and ninth FE.
All five are members of the Ohio Gymnastics Institute.
WSAJ has schedule
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Radio station WSAJ-FM 91.1 will broadcast 10 high school football games this fall beginning with Slippery Rock at Brookfield Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
Ryan Briggs will be the play-by-play announcer and Bill Albright will be the analyst.

YOUNGSTOWN -- WYFX-TV (17/62) will televise the Youngstown State football game at Liberty live, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
Walsh's Racickis preseason pick
NORTH CANTON -- Walsh College linebacker Jay Racick, a senior from Girard, was selected as a third-team preseason All-American by Don Hansen Gazette.
The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Racick was Walsh's leading tackler last season (120). Walsh finished the 2002 season 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast Division.
Geneva senior linebacker Dan Glaze was named to the first team. Glaze led Geneva in tackles in 2002 with 94.
Other Golden Tornadoes getting preseason recognition were senior quarterback Ben Swallow of West Branch, junior running back Josh Mullen and senior cornerback Mark Villella.
Walsh players named first team were tailback Derek Besgrove and defensive back Darryl Lyons. Second-teamers were tight end Chris Brink and defensive lineman Andy Berkowitz.
NASCAR driversat Sharon
HARTFORD -- Dave Blaney, Kyle Petty and Ken Schrader will visit Sharon Speedway to sign autographs on Saturday, August 16.
The NASCAR drivers will raise funds for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a retreat for seriously ill children and their families. Regular admission ($10 adults, $5 kids 12-15 and free for 11-under) will apply. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
