ALLIANCE Area teams set for Buick Scramble sectional play

Alliance Country Club will host one of four sectionals in Northern Ohio.
ALLIANCE -- The Buick Scramble, celebrating its 20th season and second under the Buick banner, will host a Northern Ohio PGA Sectional Championship Monday at Alliance Country Club.
The championship is one of four Northern Ohio PGA Sectional Championships, with the winning teams to compete at the Buick Scramble National Championships in October.
Twenty-four five-person teams (four amateurs and one PGA Professional) will tee-off at a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Teams will compete in a modified scramble format with two teams (one gross, one net) advancing to the Buick Scramble National Championships, taking place Oct. 8-12 at Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando.
Buick will also provide closest-to-the-pin competitions for PGA Professionals and amateurs.
Each team participating in the Northern Ohio PGA Sectional Championship advanced from their respective Buick Scramble Local Championship earlier this season.
World's largest amateur event
The Buick Scramble is the world's largest amateur golf tournament, with approximately 100,000 participants each year. Sanctioned by the PGA of America, the Buick Scramble hosts nearly 2000 local championships nationwide annually. Local winners advance to one of 130 PGA Sectional Championships, with the section winners advancing to the Buick Scramble National Championships in Orlando.
Local teams will represent East Liverpool Country Club, Fonderlac Country Club (three teams), Mill Creek Golf Course, Salem Golf Club (two teams), Tippecanoe Country Club (two teams) and Youngstown Country Club.
