Woman leads police on chase in stolen car
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 36-year-old Granite Street woman was arrested at 8:20 a.m. Saturday after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car around the city's South Side and on Interstate 680.
The chase began at Hillman Street, near Myrtle Avenue, when Sandra M. Tierney refused to stop for police. She drove a 1993 Mercury Cougar through several streets to 680, where she went north, weaving and cutting off other motorists, police said.
She got off 680 at Meridian Road, then got back on the highway going south and tried to hit a cruiser near the Meridian entrance ramp, police allege.
She got off again at Belle Vista Avenue, turned onto one-way Connecticut Avenue the wrong way, hit a car, then fled on foot, leaving the car in gear.
Tierney was caught behind 224 N. Maryland Ave. and taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of receiving stolen property, failure to obey a police order and driving under suspension.
A passenger in the stolen car escaped, police said.
