PENNSYLVANIA
Deer applications;elk, bobcat deadline
Beginning Aug. 18, the Pennsylvania Game Commission will accept antlerless deer license applications from nonresident hunters. Resident hunters were permitted to begin applying on Aug. 4.
Hunters planning to participate in the elk hunt have until Friday, Aug. 22, to get their paper applications and $10 nonrefundable fee into the Pennsylvania Game Commission's U.S. Post Office box.
Pennsylvania hunters and trappers who want to participate in a random drawing for 570 bobcat permits for the limited 2003-04 seasons must have their applications to the Game Commission postmarked by Friday.
OHIO
Controlled hunt drawing
Waterfowl hunters are invited to a special drawing at 9 a.m. Saturday for controlled hunting at Guilford Lake State Park (not the early Canada goose season). Hunters may register for the drawing at 8:30 a.m. at the Guilford Lake State Park shelter house on Teegarden Road.
The first 13 hunters whose names are drawn will be assigned a specific area for the first week of the regular waterfowl season. The rest of the season permits will be available on a first come, first serve basis with hunters eligible to sign up for a spot on the same day they wish to hunt.
Hunting will be Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays only during the waterfowl season. Hunting will be allowed from legal shooting time to noon.
Only two hunters per party will be allowed and one of them must be the permit holder. Hunters must use a 12 gauge shotgun or smaller and each hunter will be limited to 15 shells containing nontoxic shot of size #2 or smaller.
State park, dock lotterydeadline is Aug. 31
Boat owners wishing to rent public boat docks at Ohio State Park, lakes for the 2004 season have until August 31 to enter lottery drawings for available docks.
Lottery drawings will be held in September for boat docks at specific state parks. Application forms are now available through individual park offices.
Completed forms may be submitted in person or sent by certified mail/return receipt to the parks involved. Hand delivered forms must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 29; mailed forms must be postmarked by Aug. 31.
Lottery applicants must be able to show current proof of boat ownership or lease at the time of entry. Boats titled to dealerships are not eligible. Persons selected in the 2003 lottery are entitled to renewal privileges for up to five years. Dock rental fees will increase in 2004.

Public input sought
Proposed changes to Lake Erie fishing regulations are expected to draw the most attention at open houses Thursday hosted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
Open houses will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. the Division of Wildlife's District One Office in Columbus, District Two Office in Findlay, District Three Office in Akron, District Four Office in Athens, District Five Office in Xenia, and the Sandusky Fish Research Office.
Duck blind lottery set
A limited number of duck blind permits are available at 18 state park locations throughout Ohio for the 2003-04 waterfowl hunting season. A permit lottery will be held Saturday at selected state park offices. To enter the lottery, applicants must appear in person at a participating state park office and show proof of a 2003 Ohio hunting license, along with a signed 2003 federal duck stamp and 2003 state wetlands stamp endorsement in the applicant's name.
Applications will be taken beginning at 7:30 a.m. at most parks.
Each entrant can apply for only one blind permit. No one can apply or draw for another person. There is a $50 nonrefundable permit fee for lottery winners. Lottery winners have 45 days to construct their blinds.
