AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Michelle Snow matched a career high with 19 points and Sheryl Swoopes added 15 points and eight rebounds as the Houston Comets beat the Detroit Shock 66-56 on Friday night for their fourth win in a row.
Detroit, which has dropped two straight, leads Charlotte by four games atop the Eastern Conference.
The Comets, who have never lost to Detroit in nine meetings, snapped the Shock's six-game winning streak at home. Janeth Arcain added 12 points for Houston.
Swin Cash led Detroit with 11 points, and Cheryl Ford and Ruth Riley scored 10 each.
Detroit trailed 31-26 at halftime and was still within five with 16 minutes to play. Houston then scored six straight points to take a 43-32 lead with 14:16 left.
Three-point plays by Barb Farris and Cash helped Detroit narrow the gap to 50-47 with 6:45 to go, but Houston scored the next nine points -- five by Swoopes -- to put the game out of reach.
Notes: It was the first meeting between the teams since they combined to score a WNBA-record low 26 points in the first half of a game last season. ... Detroit All-Star Deanna Nolan missed the game because of a pulled hamstring. Fans were given Nolan masks as part of the ceremonies honoring her hometown of Flint. ... Dominique Canty, who played her first four seasons with Detroit, played against the Shock for the first time since an offseason trade.
