AUSTINTOWN Trustees to vote on 2.5-mill levy

AUSTINTOWN -- Township trustees are expected to pass a resolution Monday that would place a 2.5-mill levy on the November ballot.
The $1.4 million per year the levy would generate would be used for police department costs, including vehicles, communications equipment and salaries.
The levy would have no stated expiration date.
Township officials said the owner of a $100,000 home would pay an additional $78 per year if the levy goes into effect.
Also at the meeting, trustees expect a visit from Mahoning County Juvenile Judge Theresa Dellick, said Township Administrator Michael Dockry.
Dellick is slated to present the township with a $67,000 state grant to restart a juvenile diversion program that was canceled in May due to financial concerns.
The state funds would be used to hire caseworkers to help youngsters who get in trouble with police or at school.
The township will provide in-kind services, such as supervision and space, Dockry said.
