Taste of the Valley raises $37,000
YOUNGSTOWN -- Second Harvest Food Bank's annual Taste of the Valley fund-raiser raised $37,000 to feed hungry people in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
On Aug. 1, more than 500 people went to the Holiday Inn MetroPlex in Liberty Township to dine on food and beverages from 35 area restaurants and vendors.
The Phoenix String Quartet provided music, and a silent auction included a week's stay in a Florida condominium, art, gift baskets and sports memorabilia.
Dr. Jacques Politi and family were recognized for their gift of a building to the food bank. Awards were presented to the Spread Eagle Restaurant and Tavern of Hanoverton for best overall and best appetizer, Chrystal's of Youngstown for best entree, and Fifth Season of Youngstown and Spread Eagle for best dessert.
"On behalf of hungry children and their families in our community, thank you from the bottom of our hearts," said Michael Iberis, executive director of the food bank. For more information, call (330) 783-1122.
