AURORA, Ill. -- The Rev. Joseph Jablonski, 53, was recently elected provincial, or the superior, of the U.S.A. Province of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. He's the son of Stanley and Ana Jablonski of Boardman, who are members of St. Charles Parish.
Father Jablonski was born in Steubenville, and at age 14 he entered the Sacred Heart Seminary in Geneva, Ill. He was ordained in Youngstown in 1976. His three-year term as provincial begins Sept. 1. The U.S.A. province, based in Aurora, Ill., operates in six states and two countries: Papua New Guinea and Columbia. Father Jablonski returned to the United States 51/2 years ago after working in Columbia for 21 years.
Southern gospel concert
HANOVERTON -- Nationally known southern gospel singer Ivan Parker and the local group God's Quad will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at United Local High School. Parker has appeared on many "Bill and Gloria Gaither Homecoming" videos. Tickets are $10 each in advance and $11 at the door. All seats are general admission. Patronal day celebration
LIBERTY -- St. Rocco's Episcopal Church will observe its Patronal Celebration Day on Sunday. Mass is at 10 a.m. There will be an outdoor procession with a statue of St. Rocco, flags, banners and the St. Margherita Italian Marching Band. A variety of homemade food will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can walk labyrinths in the church garden or parking lot.
Guitar music offered
NORTH JACKSON -- The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon will host a performance of sacred and classical guitar music with vocals by the Rev. Maximilian Mary. The performance will be at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Prayer Garden of St. Joseph. An offering will be taken. Call (330) 538-3351.
Parenting program
HOWLAND -- Howland Community Church is offering a new program, Adults Relating to Kids, based on the research at The Children's Center for Self-Esteem in Spring, Texas. ARK teaches Christian values with current parenting theory within a small group-discussion setting. The program begins at 7 p.m. Sept. 4. The cost is $30 per family for the 153-page ARK manual. GIRARD -- The First Presbyterian Church of Girard is hosting The Dig Project at 7 p.m. Tuesday. D.I.G., or Death Is Gain from Philippians 1:21, is a five-member rock band. Free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. An offering will be taken.
Block party set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Restitution Miracle Worship Center will present "Reaching Out To The Community," a gospel block party from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 on West Warren Avenue. 80th anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church will observe its 80th anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Oliver Stallworth, an elder at the church. The church was first named St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church. It was later renamed for philantropist Henry Butler, who gave the congregation enough money to build the church at 126 E. Rayen Ave.
