Poland girls capture state title



Canfield boys play for the 9-10 Little League state title today.
CANFIELD -- Poland captured the Little League 9-10-year-old state softball championship with a 5-3 victory over Tallmadge Thursday at McCune Park.
Tallmadge had beaten Canfield 6-3 earlier in evening to force a second game.

HAMILTON -- Canfield will play Elyria East today at 7 p.m. for the 9-10 Little League state baseball championship.
Anthony Parella's two-run double in the sixth inning was the deciding hit for Canfield.
Charlie Barcroft worked six innings to pick up the win.
Babe Ruth
SPENCER, Ind. -- The Youngstown Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-stars are returning to the World Series next week, which will be played in Quincy, Mass.
Youngstown defeated Lexington, Ky., 5-4 in nine innings Wednesday, securing the Ohio Valley Regional championship.
Some members of this team competed in the 13-year-old World Series last summer.
On Wednesday, Youngstown trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, but after two errors and a single by Matt Katich loaded the bases, Frank Rasile was hit by a pitch to drive in the tying run. Then Chuck Olesky's sacrifice fly to right field scored Corey Collins with the winning run.
Armani Johnson, Nick Turco and Collins shared the pitching for Youngstown.
Jesse Moses, Collins and Johnson each had two hits for Youngstown.
