BASEBALL
Rondinelli Tuxedo -- from the Youngstown Babe Ruth and Class B baseball leagues will hold tryouts for fall 2003 and summer 2004. The Mahoning Valley -- Venom Baseball Club, home of the (9U AAA state champions and sixth ranked team in the nation, will be holding tryouts for 10 and 11 year old travel teams for 2004 at All Star Sports Sept 5-7. CROSS COUNTRY
The McDonald Cross Country Boosters -- will sponsor the first Billy Goat Challenge on Aug. 23. About 15 schools have registered for the event, leaving room for 50 more. The meet will be held in Woodland Park and will begin with junior high boys race at 10 a.m., junior high girls at 10:30, varsity boys at 11 and varsity girls at 11:30. Awards ceremony will follow. The 2004 Ohio Jaguars Fastpitch teams -- will be holding tryouts for interested girls on Aug. 16 at the JAGS complex in Jefferson. Tryout times are as follows: 10u and 18u @ 10 a.m.; 12u and 16u @ noon; and 13u and 14u @ 2 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 17, with all teams starting two hours later than the Saturday times. RULES MEETING
The Greater Youngstown -- Track Officials Association will hold its first rules interpretation meeting Aug. 14 at Fitch High School at 7:15 p.m. Officials must attend four local meetings and one state meeting to keep from being suspended by the OHSA.
