Long summer vacationsdiminish in America
One- or two-week summer vacations may soon become a fond memory.
Forty percent of American workers surveyed said they're not taking a week or longer off this year. Hotwire.com, the discount travel site which commissioned the survey, said respondents were parceling their time off into long weekend trips or two- to four-day jaunts.
What's behind the shift? Time and money.
A third said they wanted to save money; a fifth said they cannot or don't want to take time from work; and 15 percent said they don't have the time to plan a longer, more complex trip.
