Agency offers help with electric bills



YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Community Action Council is scheduling appointments to counsel people who need help paying their electric bills.
There is financial aid available through the Home Energy Assistance/Summer Cooling Program, council officials said.
A limited number of air conditioners will also be provided to income-eligible households with a member who has a respiratory disease or breathing problems verified by a medical professional. The program will end Aug. 31.
Applicants must report their total household income for the past 12 months for all members age 18 and up.
Both homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply if their household income is equal to or less than 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
For a single homeowner or renter, annual income must be less than $13,470; for a family of two, less than $18,180; family of three, $22,890; family of four, $27,600; family of five, $32,310; and a family of six, $37,020.
For each additional family member after six, $4,710 is added.
