United board taps teacher for athletic post
HANOVERTON -- United Board of Education is seeking a seventh-grade science teacher after hiring John Alt as athletic director.
Superintendent Glenn Willis said Alt, who has been teaching seventh-grade science, has previous experience as the district's athletic director. The board approved the move at a special meeting Wednesday, he said.
Willis said Alt will be paid $58,000 per year on a three-year contract.
The board accepted the resignation of Jeff Ladner, who was the district's athletic director for one year. He took a position as middle school athletic director at Stow, Willis said.
The board also hired W. Ashley Swonger as assistant high school principal. He will be paid $57,981 a year on a two-year contract, Willis said.
Swonger was assistant principal at Xenia Middle School and has seven years' experience as supervisor of a career and technical center, Willis said.
Swonger replaces Bill Young, whom the board recently named high school principal.
Reed Votaw, a retired teacher and principal, served as interim high school principal after the death of Principal Stan Hargreaves during the past school year.
