Hydra founder announcesname change for company
NEW YORK -- Hydra Publishing, a commercial trade house that published its initial list in the spring of 2003, has changed its name to Hylas Publishing.
Explaining the change, company founder Sean Moore said he recently learned of a small university press that had a prior claim to the Hydra name. "We could have made a convincing case to continue calling ourselves Hydra, but I felt that process could become drawn out and potentially acrimonious," he said. "We decided it was more expeditious to change the name while the company is still young."
Like Hydra, the name Hylas derives from Greek mythology.
The new name was adopted after the company's winter 2004 catalog went to press.
The Hylas imprint will appear on the publisher's books starting with their fall 2003 list. Hylas books are distributed by Holtzbrinck Publishers.
