Last year: Rich Beem eagled the 17th hole in a 19-point final round to hold off Steve Lowery by a point under the modified Stableford scoring system. Lowery holed out with a wedge for a 5-point eagle 2 on the 15th and made a 6-iron shot from 200 yards on the 17th for an 8-point double-eagle 2. Beem won the PGA Championship two weeks later for his first major title.
Last week: U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk won the Buick Open, beating 2002 winner Tiger Woods, Chris DiMarco, Geoff Ogilvy and Briny Baird by two strokes.
Notes: The PGA Championship is next week at Oak Hill in Rochester, N.Y. ... Players receive 8 points for double eagle, 5 for eagle, 2 for birdie, 0 for par, minus-1 for bogey, and minus-3 for double bogey or higher. ... Phil Mickelson, the 1993 and 1997 champion, is winless since the 2002 Greater Hartford Open. Fellow Castle Pines winners Ernie Els, Davis Love III, Greg Norman, David Toms, Vijay Singh and Jose Maria Olazabal also are entered along with Masters champion Mike Weir, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia and Darren Clarke. ... The Jack Nicklaus-designed course is 6,288 feet above sea level.

Purse: $1.1 million. Winner's share: $165,000.
Television: ESPN2 (Friday, 1-3 p.m.; Sunday, 4-6 p.m.) and ESPN (Saturday, 4-6 p.m.).
Last year: South Korea's Mi Hyun Kim won for the second time in three weeks, holding off compatriot Hee-Won Han by a stroke.
Last week: Annika Sorenstam completed the career Grand Slam, beating Se Ri Pak by a stroke in the Women's British Open at Royal Lytham and St. Annes. Sorenstam has six major victories and 46 overall LPGA Tour titles.
Notes: Sorenstam is skipping the tournament to play in the HP Open in Sweden. ... Wendy Ward set the tour scoring record for a 54-hole tournament in the 2001 event, shooting 65-62-68 for a 21-under 195 total on the New Albany Country Club course. Sorenstam matched the mark last year in the Kellogg-Keebler Classic. ... The tour will remain in Ohio next week for the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic in Sylvania.

Television: The Golf Channel (Friday-Saturday, 5-7:30 p.m., 8-10:30 p.m.; Sunday, 5-7:30 p.m., 9-11 p.m.).
Last year: Hale Irwin won the third of four 2002 titles, holding off Hubert Green by three strokes. Irwin also won the 1997 and 1999 tournaments at Bunker Hills.
Last week: Allen Doyle won the FleetBoston Classic, beating Bruce Fleisher and Bob Gilder by three strokes.
Notes: Arnold Palmer teamed with former University of Minnesota player Tom Lehman to design the TPC course. ... Bruce Lietzke won the 2001 tournament in his third senior start. ... The Long Island Classic is next week, followed by the Allianz Championship in West Des Moines, Iowa.

U.S. Women's Amateur

Last year: Southern California's Becky Lucidi won at Sleepy Hollow in Scarborough, N.Y., beating Furman's Brandi Jackson 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final.
Notes: Michelle Wie is making her first appearance in the event. The 13-year-old Hawaiian star -- away from home since May 30 -- won the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links in June in her first USGA start. She also tied for 39th in the U.S. Women's Open and advanced to the third round of the U.S. Girls' Junior. ... South Korea's Sukjin-Lee Wuesthoff won the junior title, beating 2002 winner In-Bee Park 1-up. Wuesthoff is 16. ... Carol Semple Thompson, the 1973 winner, is seeking her eighth USGA title. The 54-year-old Pennsylvania player also won the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in 1990 and 1997 and the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. ... The 2004 tournament will be played at the Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa.
