JAMESTOWN, PA. Newfoundland dogs to compete in water

JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- The Penn-Ohio Newfoundland Club Inc. will have its 15th annual Water Test Saturday and Sunday at Pymatuning State Park.
As many as 30 of the big dogs are expected to participate in the competition, with the junior division starting with basic control events around 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The senior division comes in at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Both sessions will end around noon.
This is a rain or shine event, and the public is invited to watch the rescue dogs go through their paces in such events as retrieving items thrown into the lake, towing a boat and even underwater retrieval.
The Water Test gives the dogs an opportunity to perform a series of exercises designed to show their natural life-saving instincts.
A dog successfully completing the junior exercises is awarded the Newfoundland Club of America's Water Dog title.
Those competing the more complicated senior exercises earn the Rescue Dog title.
The events take place at the east end of the dam.
Spectators should enter the park at the Pennsylvania Park office on U.S. Route 322, turn right, and drive over the dam. Parking is available in a lot across the road from the test area.
