Firefighters rescue man stuck in flood

TRANSFER, Pa. -- Firefighters said they had to rescue a motorist who drove his car into standing water on Colt Road during a storm.
The man, who wasn't identified, was found standing on the roof of his submerged car about 10 p.m., said Phil Steele, Transfer fire chief.
He wasn't injured, and firefighters waded through chest-deep water to get him to safety, Steele said.
Police had been called to Colt Road to investigate a report of high water and found the man on top of his car talking to someone on his cell phone.
He had apparently driven over a small hill in the road and into water which washed his car off the road, Steele said.
That was just one flooding problem in a series of storms that passed through the area Tuesday, said police Chief John Miller of Pymatuning Township.
One storm hit shortly before the annual Transfer Harvest Home Fair parade, and a second hit just after the parade began at 7 p.m., Miller said.
The storms washed out the parade and much of the fairgrounds. Some roads had to be closed temporarily, but there were no injuries, he said.
