YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
Nine students who graduated this spring received Outstanding Leadership Awards from the Williamson College of Business Administration based on academic performance, leadership, contributions and commitment to professional development. They are Crystal Sider of Toronto, Canada (accounting); Lisa Dickson of Brookfield (finance); Katie Bees of Youngstown (management); Brenda Chadambura of Zimbabwe, Africa (management); Angela Ferenchak of Austintown (management); Monica Jones of Warren (management); Brian Butcher of Poland, (marketing); Francesco Terra, a native of Italy, (marketing); and Jaclyn Trolio of Hubbard (marketing).
SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY, Slippery Rock, Pa.
Two local students are among seven honored by SRU's College of Business, Information Systems and Communication for their scholarship and leadership. Renee Marter of New Castle, Pa., has received the Michael J. Mullen Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Social Work. Amanda R. Hess of Stoneboro, Pa., has received the Michael Sozan Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Anthropology.
Joshua Benedict of Grove City, Pa., and Jodie Kopp of Slippery Rock, Pa., have been inducted into the SRU chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the national computer science honorary society. Induction is based on leadership and scholarship.
Five SRU students have again received scholarship money from the Quality of Life Program of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. The students, all of whom have spinal cord injuries, also received the scholarships last year. A $20,000 grant will pay tuition for the students, who are taking an adapted physical activity minor -- the only minor of its kind in Pennsylvania -- that prepares graduates for work with children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. It includes study of equestrian therapy, aquatics physical education and fitness.
OHIO UNIVERSITY, Athens
Ryan Leetch, son of David and Karen Leetch of Canfield, has accepted a position as a graduate assistant in the political science department. He will help coordinate the Welsh Internship Program. A 1999 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, Leetch will pursue a master's degree in political science with a concentration in international studies and foreign service.
