Board plans quick actionon repairing flood damage
HOWLAND -- Replacing a flood-damaged gymnasium floor at the high school will cost around $125,000, school officials estimate. The board of education will meet at noon Monday to pass a resolution that will allow officials to hire a company to fix the floor as quickly as possible, without going through formal bidding. The board will get quotes from several companies, treasurer Thomas Krispinsky said. Flooding also caused an estimated $50,000 damage to offices in the lower level of the administration building, which is not covered by insurance, Krispinsky said. The district intends to apply for repair funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for that job.
Man is attacked, stabbedoutside friend's house
GIRARD -- Kenneth Infante of Kearney Street was in a Youngstown hospital this morning where he was taken after being stabbed around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. A condition report for Infante was not immediately available. Anthony Walls and Jeremiah Medley, no ages or addresses available, were to be arraigned in municipal court today on one count each of felonious assault. Police said Infante was at a friend's home on Atlanta Street when a group of men showed up and wanted the friend to come out to fight. While the friend was on the phone with police, Infante apparently went outside and was attacked by a group of six men. Infante was able to identify the men to police, though he could not say which one stabbed him in the shoulder. While police were investigating, a neighbor called and said some of the men had returned to the area and gave a description of the vehicle to officers. Police found the vehicle, and arrested Walls and Medley. Another man who was with them was released.

The federal government is covering the entire cost of buying the machines, she said. The board plans to test the new voting machines in one small community, perhaps Southington, in the November election, she said.
