LORDSTOWN -- Though staffers are celebrating the 25th year of Trumbull Career and Technical Center's Adult Training Center, they believe it's the students who benefit from the anniversary.
Adults interested in the programs offered at the TCTC Adult Training Center can get more information during an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the facility, 1776 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown. The building formerly housed the Gordon D. James Career Center, and is just behind Lordstown High School.
"We are here for anyone looking for another career," said Judy Allen, of the Adult Training Center. "We do job training, and we retrain people for new jobs."
New facility
Allen said the open house marks the department's 25th year and celebrates its first year in the new facility. Previously, Adult Training Center was in Champion, housed in the same building as the joint vocational school.
When the Gordon D. James Center closed, TCTC began renting the facility from the Lordstown Board of Education specifically for the adult classes.
Allen said the Lordstown location is perfect for the Adult Training Center in that all classes are on one level, there is ample parking and the location is easy to find.
Now providing eight full-time programs, the Adult Training Center offers courses in everything from auto service and medical transcription to LPN courses and building maintenance education, Allen said.
The full-time programs meet in the evenings for nine months, Allen said, though some medical classes are offered during the day.
Last June, the center graduated more than 150 full-time students from the programs, Allen said.
The open house will feature tours of the building, as well as chances for those interested to visit with staff members and the laboratories.
"During the open house, anyone interested in the program can speak to the instructors about the program, find out about financial aid and even register if they want to," Allen said.
