CANTON -- Donald D. Harper, vice president of global human relations services for Goodyear Tire & amp; Rubber Company, will be the featured speaker at Malone College's summer commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton.
Harper's responsibilities at Goodyear include human resources generalist activities in corporate finance, information technology, legal and corporate marketing.
He is a global process leader for succession planning, leadership development and centers of excellence/shared services.
Harper, a member of the Malone College board of trustees and executive committee, will serve as the college's executive-in-residence for the 2003-2005 school years. In the position, he will meet with Malone faculty and business students in the undergraduate program, adult degree program and master's in business administration program. He will also serve on the School of Business advisory board.
Background
In 1998, Harper was elected vice president of human resources planning development, after a two-year directorship of human resources, for the North American Strategic Business Unit at Goodyear.
He served as director of employee relations for the Asia region from 1991 to 1993. In 1989, he was named manager of manufacturing and support training, after serving more than three years as manager of organization development.
Born in Marion, Ala., Harper joined Goodyear in 1968 as supervisor production/personnel in the North Chicago hose plant. After working in Alabama, North Carolina and Texas, he came to Ohio in 1983.
Harper received a bachelor's degree in business management from Jacksonville State University in 1977.
