h'WoodsWalk' guideskids through forest
A walk in the woods becomes an adventure with "WoodsWalk," a kids guide to life in the forest.
Authors Henry W. Art and Michael W. Robbins have created a fact-packed book that's simple enough to interest children yet not too cute for serious naturalists-to-be. It encourages kids to pay closer attention to the natural world around them by teaching them about the plants, animals and natural activity found in the woods in each season, with separate sections for the eastern and western parts of the country.
A Pocket Spy Guide can be cut from the book's back flap and taken along on walks to help children identify common trees.
"WoodsWalk" is published by Storey Kids. It's priced at $14.95 in paperback and $21.95 in hardcover.
Air conditionershave a new place
Keeping cool has a cool new look. Fujitsu is making sleek-looking room air conditioners that put most of the system outside the building, so they don't block the view from a window or intrude too much on the decor.
The Halcyon "mini-split" air conditioners can be located on a ceiling, high on a wall or close to the floor. Models in the line range from 18,000 to 42,000 BTUs.
Suggested retail prices range from $1,300 to $2,500 for wall units and $3,500 to $6,500 for ceiling units.
To find a distributor, visit www.fujitsugeneral.com. The units are usually professionally installed.
