Emmitt Smith can't shake his old team
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Thirteen years with the Dallas Cowboys are hard to shrug off in just one off-season.
Emmitt Smith slipped up when a reporter asked him how the Arizona Cardinals, his new team, would do in Saturday's exhibition game against the Cowboys. "The Cardinals always play us tough," Smith said, before immediately correcting himself. "The Cowboys, that is. I've got to get out of that habit." Smith, gun-shy after last week's flap over a comment that his last year with Dallas was the least enjoyable of his career, tried to dodge another uproar after saying he was enjoying football again because of the young running backs who surround him.
"No knock on the people in Dallas again ," Smith said. "But they keep us laughing. They keep everything fresh, they keep it light and they keep it a joke just by their demeanor, their approach, their jokes, the way they treat one another. It's just fun to be around."
