Youngstown Babe Ruth League -- tryouts for players 13-15 years of age will be Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at Borts Field on the West Side. Rain day is Aug. 12, same time.
CROSS COUNTRY
The McDonald Cross Country Boosters -- will sponsor the first annual Billy Goat Challenge on Aug. 23. About 15 schools have already registered for the event, leaving room for 5-50 more schools. The meet will be held in Woodland Park and will begin with junior high boys race at 10 a.m., junior high girls at 10:30, varsity boys at 11 and varsity girls at 11:30. Awards ceremony will follow. SOFTBALL
The Battitude Bombers -- fastpitch travel softball team will hold tryouts for players 12-and-under (as of Jan. 1, 2004) on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tryouts will be held at the Crestview softball complex, across from Crestview High School.
