State increases costof certificate copies
YOUNGSTOWN -- A state-mandated $5 increase in copies of certified birth and death certificates goes into effect Aug. 18, said Neil Altman, the city health commissioner.
The cost will rise to $15. All the money generated by the increase will go to the state, not the local government, he said.
Also, the state no longer will let the health department issue noncertified copies of birth and death certificates, Altman said. Previously, the city charged people 25 cents if they didn't need certified copies of the documents, such as those doing genealogical research.
