Officials declare event a success after counting 39,000 visitors
LISBON -- Fair officials have declared the 2003 Columbiana County Fair a success.
About 39,000 people, including 6,575 Friday, 6,859 Saturday and 6,133 Sunday, attended the weeklong fair.
Besides the junior fair and adult exhibits and shows, midway food, games and rides, the fair featured Ohio and county bicentennial events, including a birthday cake and the casting of Columbiana County's Ohio Bicentennial Bell.
The fair opened July 28 under overcast skies. Parking lots and some other areas were muddy, but rain wasn't much of a problem until Sunday.
As is traditional, the fair closed with a car demolition derby Sunday evening.
"It rained Sunday, but a little bit of rain won't keep demolition derby fans away," said Terri Hunter, fair manager.
