FISHING Iaconelli wins Bassmaster event; runner-up Klein dodges gunfire

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Pro angler Michael Iaconelli won the Bassmaster Classic on Sunday after a late catch gave him a three-day total of 37 pounds and 14 ounces.
Gary Klein placed second with a total of 36 pounds, 2 ounces, but his day was eventful for more than just fishing.
Klein, of Weatherford, Texas, told Plaquemines Parish sheriff's deputies that a man ran out of a fishing camp on a canal at 11:15 a.m. and fired a shotgun over his boat.
"It's the first time in my career that I've ever had that happen, and I have never heard of anyone else ever having that happen," Klein said.
Iaconelli, of Woodbury Heights, N.J., weighed in a five-fish limit of bass at 10 pounds, 14 ounces to win the $200,000 purse at the Louisiana Delta.
"It was the most amazing thing," said Iaconelli, 31. "I stayed focused until the very last minute that I had to leave."
Klein, who has competed in 21 Bassmaster Classic tournaments, said he would press charges if the shooter is caught. Klein was with an observer and an ESPN camera operator, but the incident was not caught on tape, said Maj. John Marie, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
On a return trip down the canal, the same man ran out, waved at Klein's boat and was filmed that time, Marie said. He said ESPN officials will give investigators a copy of the tape by Tuesday so investigators can try to identify the suspect.
"We're delighted that Gary Klein is safe and sound," said George McNeilly, a BASS spokesman. "I've never heard of anything of this nature happening before on the BASS tour."
Harold Allen of Shelbyville, Texas, finished third in the event with a total of 34 pounds, 3 ounces.
Iaconelli led heading into the final day despite losing an hour fixing a burned-out gear shift Saturday.
