WNBA ROUNDUP Saturday's games
Shock 72, Fever 58
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Swin Cash scored 15 points to lead the Detroit. Deanna Nolan's layup completed a 17-4 run that gave Detroit its biggest lead at 72-56 with 1:06 to play as the Shock won their fourth straight.
They also raised their WNBA-best record to 18-6 -- the highest win total in team history, surpassing the 17 in their inaugural season in 1998. Tamika Catchings had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the Fever.
Lynx 73, Storm 71
MINNEAPOLIS -- Katie Smith's running baseline floater at the buzzer gave Minnesota the win. Smith got away from Seattle's Lauren Jackson on the right baseline, took the inbound pass from Teresa Edwards and hung up in the air to get her shot off. The ball hit the rim twice before falling in as the horn sounded. Minnesota (14-11) is now tied for third place with the Storm (14-11), and assured itself of winning the season series between the teams.
The Lynx have won six consecutive games at home, while Seattle has lost four straight on the road. Smith's winning shot came after Seattle's Sue Bird hit a layup with 2.6 seconds left to tie the score at 71. Bird led the Storm with 17 points, and Jackson had 16 points and 12 rebounds, but Seattle shot just 34 percent from the field and had more than twice as many fouls (20) as assists (eight). Smith finished with 15 points. Janell Burse had Minnesota's second double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
She grabbed a key defensive rebound off a missed free throw from Bird, then hit one of two free throws with nine seconds left to push Minnesota's lead to two.
Comets 64, Silver Stars 55
HOUSTON -- Sheryl Swoopes scored 22 points and Janeth Arcain added 16 as Houston handed San Antonio its first loss under new coach Shell Dailey. The Comets (15-9) avenged a 63-53 loss in San Antonio on Friday night and extended their home winning streak to seven games. Houston has not lost at the Compaq Center since a 71-62 loss to Los Angeles on June 24.
Adrienne Goodson led San Antonio with 13 points and Margo Dydek added 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Silver Stars (9-17) had won three games in a row after Dailey replaced Candi Harvey as coach last week.
San Antonio trailed by nine midway through the second half before consecutive baskets by Tausha Mills and Goodson got the Silver Stars within five.
The Comets responded with an 8-2 run to take a 56-45 lead with 3:55 to go. The Comets used a quick start and defense to take a 32-22 halftime lead. A 15-5 run gave Houston its biggest lead of the half, 29-18, with 2:44 left.
