SCRAPPERS Bullpen falls apart; Auburn wins again
The Doubledays roughed up Mark Harris and Chris White for a 6-2 victory.
AUBURN, N.Y. -- Another series against the Auburn Doubledays wasn't exactly what the Mahoning Valley Scrappers needed.
Auburn, the Pinckney Division leader with a 36-9 record, roughed up two Scrappers relievers for a 6-2 victory Saturday at Falcon Park.
The Doubledays broke a 2-2 tie by scoring four runs on seven hits off Mark Harris and Chris White in the seventh and eighth innings to win the first of a three-game series.
Mahoning Valley (19-26) had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run error by third baseman Ryan Roberts, but Auburn tied the score in the bottom half and rallied for the victory.
Auburn now leads the season series against the Scrappers, 6-5.
The Scrappers were held to two unearned runs on five hits by three Auburn pitchers, with Jeremy Harper improving to 3-0 in relief.
Ceasar Suarez had two hits for the Scrappers, while Brad Snyder, Mike Conroy and Ryan Garko each added a single.
Harris took the loss for Mahoning Valley, dropping his record to 1-2.
The Scrappers will play two more games against the Doubledays before traveling to Jamestown for two games. They return home Thursday to face Batavia.
