Hamm's 3 goals as Washington Freedom clinches playoff spot,
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mia Hamm scored three goals in a game for the first time in her WUSA career as the Washington Freedom beat the San Jose CyberRays 5-0 on Saturday to clinch a playoff spot.
Hamm scored all her goals by the 55th minute, helping the Freedom (9-6-4) notch their largest margin of victory. Abby Wambach, WUSA player of the month for July, added two goals.
San Jose (7-9-3) was without several top players. Forward Pretinha was out following knee surgery and defender Brandi Chastain missed the game with a quadriceps strain.
Hamm now has 11 goals on the year, second in the league. She is the overall scoring leader with 33 points. Wambach's two goals and two assists give her 31 points (second) and 13 goals (first).

Emily Burt added a goal and an assist for Philadelphia (4-11-4), which also broke an eight-game winless skid. Hope Solo made two saves to record her first career shutout.
Atlanta (9-4-6) saw its five-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
