ARLINGTON, TEXAS Rangers roll against Tribe again
The Indians have lost 12 of 16 games since the All-Star break.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro hit a tiebreaking double and one of Texas' three homers as the Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 9-7 Saturday night for their fourth straight win.
Alex Rodriguez homered for the third consecutive game and rookie Laynce Nix also connected for the Rangers, who increased their major league-leading total to 167 a night after tying a team record with seven homers.
Palmeiro's first double in 49 games was a sinking liner to left in the seventh. Ryan Ludwick made a diving attempt to catch the ball, but it hit his glove and ricocheted away from him.
Go-ahead run
Rodriguez, who drew a one-out walk from reliever Jason Stanford (0-1), scored from first to break a 7-7 tie. After two walks loaded the bases, rookie Ramon Nivar beat out a potential double play to drive in another run.
Texas has scored 59 runs while winning five of its last six games. The Indians have lost 12 of 16 since the All-Star break.
Erasmo Ramirez (3-0), the third of six Texas pitchers, retired all four batters he faced. After a four-pitch walk, Francisco Cordero struck out three in the ninth for his fourth save.
Cleveland hit three homers before manufacturing a go-ahead run in the sixth. Jhonny Peralta led off with a double, went to third on Coco Crisp's sacrifice bunt and scored on Casey Blake's sacrifice fly to make it 7-6.
That lead, the Indians' third of the game, lasted only until the bottom of the inning when Nix homered.
Rodriguez hit his 27th homer, a two-run shot in the third that got the Rangers to 5-3. Palmeiro's 516th career homer, his 26th this season, was a three-run drive that tied it 6-6 in the fifth.
Cleveland led 5-1 after Ludwick, traded from Texas to the Indians last month, hit an RBI single to cap a three-run third.
Blake's solo homer in the first was his 11th. Ben Broussard led off the second with his 10th homer and, an inning later, hit a two-run single before scoring on Ludwick's hit.
Milton Bradley started the fifth with another homer off Texas starter Joaquin Benoit, who gave up six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits and three walks over 42/3 innings.
Michael Young had two doubles for Texas, one leading off the first before Hank Blalock's run-scoring single.
Notes
Former manager Johnny Oates and former players Nolan Ryan, Jim Sundberg and Charlie Hough were the first inductees into the new Rangers Hall of Fame. The pregame ceremony ran longer than scheduled, delaying the start of the game 13 minutes.
Indians starter Jason Davis gave up seven runs over six innings. He is 0-2 in six starts since his last win June 29.
