WNBA ROUNDUP Friday's other games
Shock 62, Liberty 60
NEW YORK -- The Detroit Shock showed why they have the best record in the WNBA. Ruth Riley's 13-foot jumper with 3.7 seconds to play handed the Liberty their franchise-record fifth straight loss. Swin Cash scored 18 points and Riley added 14 for the Shock, who won their third straight despite committing 18 turnovers and having a starter ejected. Vickie Johnson and Tari Phillips each had 15 points for the Liberty, while rookie Erin Thorn added 12 on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Elaine Powell of the Shock (17-6) hit a 3-pointer with 59 seconds left to make it 58-58, the first tie since tip-off. Riley hit an open jumper with 23 seconds left to give Detroit its first lead of the game, but Johnson drove baseline and found Phillips for a layup to tie it at 60 with 7 seconds left. Cash then posted up and dished to Riley, who swished her second straight jumper from the free throw line. Johnson put up a shot before the buzzer, but it was off to the right.
Mystics 48, Sun 45
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Ashja Jones scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead Washington. The Mystics (6-19) rallied from an 11-point deficit to snap Connecticut's four-game winning streak, its longest of the season. Washington lost its two previous games to Connecticut (13-12) but was without scoring leader Chamique Holdsclaw for those games because of a strained hamstring. Holdsclaw struggled offensively Friday, scoring seven points on 1-of-7 shooting, but had 11 rebounds. Both teams shot poorly and scored season lows. The Mystics shot 31 percent (19-of-62), while Connecticut was 15-of-63 (24 percent). Shannon Johnson led Connecticut with 18 points, while Katie Douglas added 14. Taj McWilliams-Franklin had eight rebounds for Connecticut.
Silver Stars 63, Comets 53
SAN ANTONIO -- Adrienne Goodson had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Margo Dydek had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead San Antonio. San Antonio (9-16) improved to 3-0 under interim coach Shell Dailey and is on a season-best winning streak. Marie Ferdinand added 18 points for the Silver Stars, who had lost of six in a row and nine of 10 before coach Candi Harvey was fired last Saturday. Tina Thompson had 16 points and Sheryl Swoopes added 15 for the Comets (14-9), who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Michelle Snow had 13 rebounds for Houston. Swoopes' layup six seconds into the second half gave the Comets a 33-32 lead, their last of the game. The Comets got within five points when Thompson made two free throws with 2:11 left, but Ferdinand's 10-foot jumper made it 60-53. Houston was 7-of-36 (19.4 percent) from the field in the second half and shot 30.2 percent for the game. Dydek also tied a season high with seven blocked shots. -- AP
