HERMITAGE -- The annual county Senior Citizen Picnic of the the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc. will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Buhl Park Shelter 2, featuring live musical entertainment by The Good Old Boys, Judy Christ and the Grove City Kitchen Band. The Shenango Valley Sashayers square dance club will also perform. A picnic lunch will be available, and food tickets are available at $3 per person at any of the county's senior community centers or the agency's office in Mercer. Lunch registration is required by the close of business Tuesday.
Auctioneers contest
MERCER -- There will be a lot of fast talking going on at the Mercer Livestock Auction on U.S. Route 19 just north of Mercer on Sept. 9. That's when auctioneers from across the country are expected to show up to compete for a $1,000 prize and trophy at the East Coast Livestock Auctioneers Contest and Beef Roundup Rally. The contest is one of only two such events in the United States, and this is the first one at Mercer Livestock Auction. It begins at 11 a.m.; the championship round is set for 3 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Quilt show
BRISTOLVILLE -- The Bristol Bicentennial Committee will sponsor a quilt show at Bristol United Methodist Church on Sept. 13 during the Heritage Days festivities. Artisans will demonstrate activities that were part of the daily lives of early Bristolville-area settlers. Performance for kids
WARREN -- A 50-minute children's fairy tale musical review is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 10 and 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Packard Music Hall. "The Granny Awards" tell the story of Granny, who is retiring from show business and wants to honor the fairy tale characters with the most memorable performance. The production is performed by children for children. Tickets are $3 each and may be purchased at the music hall box office or by phone at (330) 841-2931or (330) 841-2936. Snacks will be sold.
