SHARON, PA. Erie Diocese churches pass the torch of faith
SHARON, Pa. -- A torch signifying the light of faith will be at churches and religious institutions in Mercer County for the next two weeks as part of the Catholic Diocese of Erie's sesquicentennial.
The torch will be used to light a candle at each location before a service. Call the parish or diocese for times.
The schedule is: Sunday, St. Columbkille Church, Stoneboro; Monday, Our Lady of Fatima and St. Ann churches, Farrell; Tuesday, St. Adalbert and Holy Trinity churches, Farrell; Wednesday, St. Stanislaus Church, Sharon; Thursday, St. Anthony Church, Sharon; Friday, Sacred Heart Church, Sharon; next Saturday, St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville.
Aug. 10, St. Joseph Church, Sharon; Aug. 11, Notre Dame Church, Hermitage; Aug. 12, John XXIII Home, Hermitage; Aug. 13, Good Shepherd Church, West Middlesex; Aug. 14, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer; Aug. 15, Beloved Disciple Church, Grove City; Aug. 16, St. Michael Church, Greenville.
The torch was lighted June 8 at St. Francis Church in Clearfield -- the oldest parish in the diocese -- to begin the celebration. The torch will travel to all 13 counties in the diocese before returning to St. Peter Cathedral in Erie on Oct. 11. The celebration will end at the cathedral Oct. 19.
