MiniPage activities meet many state and national educational standards.
This week's standards: Students understand changes in the Earth and sky. (Science: Earth and Space Science)
Activities:
1. Draw two pictures of yourself. First, draw a picture of you and your friends playing outside on a sunny day. In the next picture, draw what happens to you and your friends when a sudden rainstorm appears.
2. Look for items in the newspaper that you would use on a rainy day. Find items you would need to go outside in the rain and things you could do inside on a rainy day.
3. What plans would you make for the day if you looked outside and saw (1) white clouds, (2) gray clouds and (3) green clouds?
4. Draw a diagram of the water cycle illustrating these steps: water in a pond, evaporation, clouds, rain, and back to the pond.
5. Use resource books and the Internet to learn more about tornadoes. Use these questions to guide your research: What different kinds of tornadoes are there? How fast do the winds move in a tornado? What part of the country experiences the most tornadoes? During what months do tornadoes appear most frequently? What other countries experience numerous tornadoes?
