LAWRENCE COUNTY Man tests positive for W. Nile virus

No cases have been reported in Mercer or Beaver County.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The region's first case of West Nile virus this summer has turned up in Lawrence County.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health said that a 75-year-old man tested positive for the disease Wednesday.
His name and address weren't revealed.
There were also new reports of cases in Allegheny, Cameron, Lebanon and York counties. All of those recently affected are reported to be recovering, according to the state.
There haven't been any other reported cases in this section of northwestern Pennsylvania, although the state reported that one mosquito tested positive as a carrier in Oil City in nearby Venango County on July 23.
Neither Mercer nor Beaver County has reported any cases or positive animal tests so far.
The virus is most commonly spread by mosquitoes and often is first detected by the deaths of birds bitten by the pests. People finding dead birds, particularly crows, owls, blue jays and hawks, should call the Department of Health at (877) 724-3258 to report them.
Most people have no reaction to the virus, but those with weak immune systems are at risk. The state reported nine West Nile deaths last year.
