DIOCESE OF YOUNGSTOWN Bishop Tobin announces appointments, elections
He appointed five priests to the diocesan Presbyteral Council.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown has announced a variety of personnel moves.
The Rev. Osward Mugendi Murungi, a priest of the Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus, was appointed associate pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Canton effective last Friday. The priest served in several parishes in his native Kenya after his ordination in 2001.
The Rev. Philip Miller, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Ashtabula, was appointed dean of the Ashtabula County Deanery. He succeeds the Rev. Michael Balash who became pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Mantua, in Portage County.
The bishop appoints a dean in each of the seven deaneries in the six-county diocese who promote and coordinate pastoral activity; attend to the needs of priests, meet with the bishop, and promote fraternity and cooperation among the clergy.
The bishop also appointed five priests and confirmed the election of seven others by their peers to the diocesan Presbyteral Council for three-year terms starting Sept. 1. The council is a consultative group that aids the bishop in promoting the pastoral welfare of parishioners.
The appointed priests are: Monsignor Michael Cariglio, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Youngstown; the Rev. Bernard Gaeta, pastor of St. Aloysius Parish, East Liverpool, and Immaculate Conception Parish, Wellsville; the Rev. Thomas Kraszewski, associate pastor of St. Paul Parish, North Canton (reappointed); the Rev. Manciej Mankowski, associate pastor of St. Charles Parish, Boardman; and the Rev. Frank Zanni, pastor of St. Vincent DePaul Parish, Vienna.
