Wilmington, Pulaski townships declare disaster emergencies

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Two Lawrence County townships, Wilmington and Pulaski, have declared disaster emergencies in light of last weekend's storms that caused widespread flooding.
Lawrence County commissioners supported those declarations with their own disaster declaration Wednesday, said Sharyn Critchlow, county emergency management coordinator.
The county declaration will involve a wider geographic look at damage.
Mercer County made a similar declaration earlier this week, reporting at least $2 million damage to public property such as bridges and streets.
Critchlow said that Lawrence County estimates are just beginning to come in but that Wilmington Township had at least a $250,000 loss to public property, including the washout of a bridge.
No figures were available yet for Pulaski Township, she said.
Though Mercer County is focusing only on public property, Lawrence County is asking private property owners to report their uninsured losses as well in an effort to secure state or federal aid for repairs and cleanup work.
People wanting to report their losses can call the emergency management agency at (724) 658-5176.
