From Cafaro Field
Take me out to the ball game: Many members of the Canfield Fast Signs baseball team in the Tri-T Pony 13-14 league were in attendance. The team of just 13-year olds went 18-7 and won the league's East Division. Manager Don Muth was the host of the affair.
Moving up: Pitcher Paul Rigdon has been promoted to the Akron Aeros. Rigdon has been rehabbing with the Scrappers after arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last summer. He allowed 11 hits in 10 innings and three starts for Mahoning Valley. Opponents were hitting .297 against him.
Back for more: Pitcher Chip Southland was promoted from Burlington to take the roster spot of Rigdon. Last summer, Southerland appeared in five Scrappers games, with a 0-0 record and a 5.63 ERA. At Burlington he allowed just 10 hits in 12 relief appearances with a 0.53 ERA.
Coming up: Tonight the Scrappers will send T.J. Burton (1-1, 9.26 ERA) against Jean Machi (2-3, 5.22) of Batavia. Friday, it's Joe Weaver (0-0, 5.79) of Mahoning Valley meeting Julio De La Cruz (1-4, 4.29).
