CARSON, Calif. -- Midfielder Antonio Martinez scored in his debut with the Los Angeles Galaxy and defender Alexi Lalas added a second-half goal in a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew on Wednesday night.
Midfielder Brian Maisonneuve scored in the 79th minute for Columbus (5-7-5), which had its winless streak extended to four games.
Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman made eight saves as the MLS defending champion Galaxy (4-6-7) won for just the second time in their last seven games.
Martinez took a pass from Cobi Jones, drove past defender Chad McCarty and put a shot past goalkeeper Tom Presthus in the 44th minute for his first goal of the season.
Lalas headed in Simon Elliot's free kick in the 52nd minute, also for his first goal of the season.
Maisonneuve scored his first goal of the season on assists from Frankie Hejduk and Jeff Cunningham.
Martinez, who played at Fullerton State, was acquired in a five-player trade with Dallas on July 11 and this was the Galaxy's first MLS game since. Los Angeles had a break in its MLS schedule to play in the Peace Cup Korea 2003 tournament.
Presthus made three saves.
Columbus led 17-10 in shots and 9-5 in shots on goal.
Columbus played without leading scorer Brian McBride, expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks after fracturing his left orbital last Wednesday in the United States' 2-1 loss to Brazil in a CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal at Miami.

CARY, N.C. -- San Jose's Katia scored her fourth goal of the season with a header in the 63rd minute as the Cyberrays beat the Carolina Courage 2-1.
It was the Cyberrays' third straight win over the Courage this year.
Danielle Slaton scored her second goal for Carolina (7-8-3) about two minutes after Dianne Alagich notched her first career goal for San Jose (7-8-3) at 45:50.
A potential game-tying goal by Carolina's Venus James in the 87th minute was waved off for an offside violation.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half despite three shots on goal by Carolina and two by San Jose.
Alagich recorded her first point in 33 games for San Jose with an unassisted goal fired from the top corner of the penalty area. Slaton answered at 48:05 from the 6-yard box with a header off a corner kick by Brooke O'Hanley that she directed inside the far post.
Katia gave San Jose its final edge at 62:35 when she one-touched a long cross from Michelle French past Carolina goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill.
San Jose twice in the first half got opportunities at the 6-yard box without a goal. Katia sent one shot wide right and Luckenbill deflected a shot by Sissi.
San Jose played without captain Brandi Chastain, nursing a strained thigh muscle.
