Girard trucker faces vehicular homicide charge

WARREN -- A Girard truck driver will appear in municipal court Friday, accused of vehicular homicide in the June 16 death of a Newton Falls man.
The misdemeanor charge was filed Wednesday against Roberto Duebelt, 46.
David S. George, 31, of Newton Falls died last month after a seven-vehicle pileup on state Route 82 eastbound, west of state Route 46, authorities said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a line of traffic was stopped in the right lane to exit onto state Route 46 when an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Duebelt ran into the line of traffic.
Duebelt's rig struck six vehicles and ruptured its fuel tank. Duebelt told troopers that he fell asleep. Eleven people were injured as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation.
The intersection at state Routes 82 and 46 has been ranked second-worst in the county by the governor's office of highway safety, but the majority of the accidents take place among vehicles heading in the other direction.
Traffic was heavier than usual the day of the accident because of the Mahoning Valley Rib Burn Off in Niles and the LPGA tournament in Vienna.
